Creating the Sparkle: Passion - What's Yours?

Sparkle, that word gives an instant mental picture. Something that is beautiful, something that brightens its surroundings, that makes a change to its world.

Something that is out of the ordinary, that brings happiness..

This goes hand in hand with passion. And no I'm not talking passion like in the adult movies, but true deep passion for something that wells out of your deepest inner parts.

Passion is what creates your sparkle, what makes you smile as you walk down the street and sing in the shower. Its what give you the extra bit of strength to go a little farther and get back up and try again.

It what makes you different than anyone else.

sparkle

[spahr-kuhl]  verb, -kled, -kling, noun
–verb (used without object)
1. to issue in or as if in little sparks, as fire or light: The candlelight sparkled in the crystal.
2. to emit little sparks, as burning matter: The flames leaped and sparkled.
3. to shine or glisten with little gleams of light, as a brilliant gem; glitter; coruscate.
4. to effervesce, as wine.
5. to be brilliant, lively, or vivacious.–verb (used with object)
6. to cause to sparkle: moonlight sparkling the water; pleasure sparkling her eyes.–noun
7. a little spark or fiery particle.
8. a sparkling appearance, luster, or play of light: the sparkle of a diamond.
9. brilliance, liveliness, or vivacity.

The question is: do you sparkle? Is your life full of brilliance, liveliness, or vivacity? Do you glow with an inner luster or a fiery spark?

What dreams do you have that wake you up in the middle of the night?

Why not?

I know better than anyone that life can be tough. The monotony of the day to day and a huge to do list looming overhead can drag down and dull even the most fiery glimmer of passion in anyone.
But the thing about passion is that even if has become just the tiniest little flickering flame deep inside, tamed by disappointments and hurts and busyness- it is still there burning away, just waiting for you to stop your busy life for a moment and remember the good things, the important things that make you happy.

So do it now. Stop what your doing right now and close your eyes and breath for 20 seconds. Really think about what makes you who you are.

What is that big dream that lives down deep in your heart, that sometimes scares you to think about it because you think its impossible and too big for you, you could never actually accomplish it. Now I'm not going to walk you through a 10 step success process to achieve your dreams or anything, but I will ask you this one thing.

Write it on a post it note and put it up on your bathroom mirror.

This forces you to look at it every morning, and its really amazing how you look at your day differently when you bring your passion into perspective. It makes doing that spreadsheet bearable because you are learning office skills to one day run your own company. It makes every backbreaking hour mowing lawns or serving coffees manageable because that is one more hour's wage going towards saving for that house or big holiday. It makes cleaning the house again okay because as soon as you finish you get your you time to dream.

Whatever your passion is, drag it down to a daily level and start taking small steps now towards where you want to be. Because heaven knows, no one will do it for you.

As the great Lord Tennyson said: "The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions."

Oprah also had some words of wisdom on the subject: "Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it."
