Week in Review: The Duchess of Cambridge, 26 June - 2 July, Part 1

During the Cambridge's North American tour, I'll be splitting Catherine's looks into multiple review posts since even I don't write posts as crazy long as a full week would be. So, Part 1:

1. At the royal box for Wimbledon, 27 June, a) on Kate and b) with the LK Bennett shoes on display; c) the dress from Temperley London, and d) Secret Agent Wills at Wimbledon, just because I find him entertaining. Kate also wore those diamond and sapphire Are-They-Or-Aren't-They-Diana's earrings again, as well as the famous Bracelet of Controversy, and carried a beige clutch and a brown jacket.
I said it on Twitter, and I'll say it again: kicky little tennis dress. I like it, and I'm ever so glad she didn't have to put the jacket on top. The detail on the back of the straps would bug the crap out of me if I wore this - looks like the kind of thing that would get all messed up on your seat back, or that someone could stand behind you and flick at. (I guess this means we know Secret Agent Wills isn't the kind of husband that annoys his wife for sport.)

2. Leaving Heathrow Airport for Canada, 30 June, a) on Kate, b) the dress from Roland Mouret, and c) the jacket from Smythe. Her shoes are Manolo Blahniks and her bag is Mulberry.
Basically, if I had the money - and the body, but that's a different discussion - my daily uniform would be Roland Mouret and Manolos. Kudos are due to Mrs. Cambridge here: she went French (Mouret), Canadian (Smythe), British (Mulberry) and Fabulous (Blahnik), all in one outfit. That's the mark of a black belt in international political dressing. And this is just the ho-hum, excuse me while I board my private plane look.

3. Arriving in Canada and the first events of the day in Ottawa, 30 June, a) on Kate, and b) from Erdem, with the same shoes and clutch as at Wimbledon. She also wore the diamond and cabochon sapphire earrings she wore on engagement day.
4. An evening barbecue with young people, 30 June, in an Issa dress.
I'd say Erdem's the biggest Canadian name in high fashion, so the second outfit of the day is a smart move indeed. There's that black belt again, karate-chopping her way into Canada's arms. As for the actual dress...eh. Maybe I'm just a little burnt out on the navy overload, or maybe I'm just not a fan of navy lace dresses. I have no complaints of substance here, it just doesn't flip my skirt up. Sadly, neither does the last dress (which she's had for a long time and was last seen the day before the wedding), and I blame it on one thing: the shoes. Can we have the Manolos back, please? (And yes, I know, more comfortable, long day, etc. But my shoe-loving heart wants what it wants.)

How's she doing so far? Do you have a favorite look yet?

Week in Review: Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 19-25 June

Here's what Mette-Marit wore from 19-25 June:

  1. At a dinner for the United Nations Foundation Board of Directors, 20 June, a) on Mette-Marit and b) from Valentino.
  2. At an event related to the "Til topps" event, 24 June. "Til topps" is an event in which people climb to the top of Norway's highest mountain, and this is just right. Precisely what a von Trapp would have worn.
  3. Participating in the "Til topps" event, 25 June. A little family walk to the top of Norway! Well, that's kind of adorable.
Look who else showed up for the UN dinner:
Absolutely love that white on Rania, but I think Sonja might win my prize for this mini-gathering of royals. Surprisingly chic, that simple dress and the scarf thrown just so, no?

Runway Report: Paris Menswear Fashion Week 2012: Lanvin

Urban Warrior!

Security Guard Chic: Lanvin Menswear Spring/Summer 2012

Lanvin Creative Director Alber Elbaz and Menswear Designer Lucas Ossendrijver began with the idea of creating a uniform for the "everyman". "Nothing is sexier than a Man in uniform" stated Elbaz and I couldn't agree with him more! Could you imagine the TSA Agents dressed in these ensembles!! Now that would keep me alert at the airport!

But being that the uniform theme was just the jumping off point, these outfits are really meant to inspire the man on the street and that is something I definitely think we will be seeing especially in the Chic boroughs of Paris and New York. I'm loving the Suit Jacket with shorts ensemble above!

Colored Crew: Lanvin Menswear Spring/Summer 2012

The middle section of the show gave us some great colored suits (a definite Spring 2012 Trend!) in interesting fabrications that weren't your basic menswear tropical wools. Loving the nipped in waists and slim cropped trousers (another Trend Alert!)

Military Mash-up: Lanvin Menswear Spring/Summer 2012

And finally, the show closed with a mix of military tailoring and Boho Chic prints that had the perfect balance of structure and fluid ease. Bravo! This is definitely a collection that will be an inspiration in menswear for seasons to come.

Happy 50th Birthday Princess Diana

Happy 50th Birthday to the late Princess Diana. Although Princess Diana has passed away (May she rest in peace) we can still celebrate what would've been her 50th birthday. We take a look at Lady Diana's fashion through the years. She always looked beautiful and elegant and spot on trends. Have in mind it was the 80s and 90s, so be prepared to see bold colours, flashy hats, skirt suits, puffy dresses and more.
We will always remember Princess Diana for her humanitarian work, sophistication, being a Princess, kind, loving and lastly being a mother to the future King William and Prince Harry...
Happy Birthday.... R.I.P

Colour block returns

Walking back to happiness.

A very serious looking, post walk Froogs wearing - LA Gear t-shirt £1 charity shop, Per Una jeans BNWT ebay £8 and Reebok trainers from the Sally Army shop for £2.
Thanks everybody for your supportive and encouraging remarks and comments yesterday. So much came out into the open yesterday that I've spent today reeling. I'll come to terms with it all when I can. In the mean time, I'll just keep the door, lines of communication, my mind and my heart open.

I've always found exercise to be a great stress reliever; if I've had a tough day, then a 3.5 mile walk up and down the hilliest hills I can find leave me a lot less worried. I thought I would use this blog to share my weight loss up date. I have kept going, as best I can with a few hiccups, with my frugal weight loss journey. I'm itching to spend some money on a gym, or at least on some sports clothes but I've just not got it sensibly to spare when every penny is needed else where. I go out and stride (I don't like 'power walking') in a pair of jeans and a tee shirt. Now though, I'm doing it in a size 14 pair of jeans and size 14 tee shirt. The jeans are still a little too small and I like them to be more boot cut, but as I have hulking great legs and cankles, they look like skinny jeans!!! They will be my photo me and measure me jeans so I can look back and see 'where I was'. My weight has gone up and down a bit recently but it's settling at 12' 8lbs and I hope to get it down to 12' by August!

For those of you interested in the Dukan Diet, I'm back to making sure that no carbs go any where near me and it's no surprise, but when I eliminate them, then I go back to losing weight. It works and I've just got to stick to it!

Thanks again everyone, we'll get through this somehow...............and the diet!!!

Until tomorrow

There is so much we can learn from each other, movies, seminars and experiences..
but books gives you the chance to take it all in, in a one on one contact
with what YOU as an individual or what i'd like to call a "STORY"
have to learn from..
To each their own and to each a hidden msg in which if your ready...
u'll manage to catch between the lines and u'll open urself to listen to your heart,
mind and soul to the answers u've always known but didnt pay attention to..

A perfect book is one you pick up at the perfect time in your life to read...
I hope this one finds your way and paves it to a bright future ahead
with fewer question marks..

Royal Fashion Minute: Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco in Gucci Equestrian

Fancy Riding...

Gucci Perfect: Charlotte Casiraghi, daughter of Princess Caroline of Hanover, Global Champion Tour 2011 Monte Carlo Monaco

For the second year in a row, the Italian Fashion House of Gucci and its Creative Director/Designer Frida Giannini has announced a collaboration with Princess Caroline of Hanover's model-GORGEOUS 24-year-old daughter, Charlotte Casiraghi.

Rider Chic: Charlotte Casiraghi in Gucci equestrian ensemble

This last week, she showed off her new Gucci ensembles at the Global Champion Tour 2011 in Monte Carlo Monaco--a week before her Uncle, Prince Albert's nuptials. Mommy--Princess Caroline of Hanover--was there to support her beautiful daughter.

Charlotte Casiraghi and Frida Giannini Creative Director of Gucci, 2010

Gucci, as you may know, has a long and very strong heritage of designing luxurious horse riding wear and so it makes sense. One of their iconic insignias are in fact the horse riding bits, which can be seen on many a Gucci shoe, purse, belt, and tie. Last year was the first year Giannini and Gucci collaborated with Casiraghi, using her as a style muse. Gucci riding pants, Gucci shirts and of course, Gucci riding boots.

So what does Charlotte think of the collection which was designed just for her? “I loved riding in the collection that Frida designed for me last year and I love this new wardrobe even more. It’s the best of sport and style.”

Perfect Wedding Dress

Some dresses need a special undergarment to make your outfit look right. Decide what type of petticoat you need first. Do you need one with hoops or with out hoops. If you do need hoops, wear another pettiskirt on top of the hoop layer so the hoops don’t show through as much. You can choose one made out of netting instead of hoop if you don’t want to bother with them. Netting is usually there to keep your wedding dress from constantly pulling through your legs as you walk. It looks a lot more glamorous to walk down the aisle with out your dress tucking in between your legs.

Love The Dress: Eva Mendes

Doesn't Eva Mendes look absolutely stunning in this Salvatore Ferragamo dress. The mix of neutrals caught my eye!

Beautiful Wedding Dresses

This utterly stunning gown is a modern twist on the classic strapless wedding dress. Coming in a non-traditional blush hue, or the more classic bridal ivory or soft white, this dress is sure to scream bold and original all day long. The draped organza bodice and hand-cut bias flange skirt are not only extremely form flattering, but they also create a dreamy princess look. The silky charmeuse lining makes it unbelievably comfortable while it still has some structure to its form. This gown will leave some things left up to the imagination and won’t disappoint in your classic outdoor wedding. Let your true beauty shine all day inside this flowing layered gown while you comfortably strut down the aisle or boogie on the dance floor at the reception.

Tiara Thursday: Grace's Small Diamond Tiara

Last Monaco tiara before the big day! Everybody, please cross your fingers in sync for plenty of tiara love in one form or another during the festivities.

This diamond number I have no better name for than the Small Diamond Tiara, but that's okay. It's not particularly fancy itself, so I think it'll do just fine with a plain name.

It can be worn in at least two ways. Here's the larger setting:

And here's the smaller one:

This smaller setting was far more popular with Grace, which isn't really a surprise given that her taste tilted more towards elaborate hairstyles than elaborate jewels.

She had a tendency to nestle it into those hairdos so that you can barely tell it's there, which is either a crying shame or a mark of class (not needing to show off your diamonds, just having them there, that is), depending on your perspective. Once again, I bow in the face of brilliant tiara hair.

I have wondered if this piece was also worn by Princess Caroline - the shape of her hair ornament for her pre-wedding ball in 1978 would seem to match - but have never found a clear enough picture to tell.

Despite the small size, I've always loved this tiara for its delicate nature, and would love to see it make a reappearance. What about you: too small, or just right?
