Style Inspiration: Nicole Richie

Most of us know her story: adopted by singer Lionel Richie, growing up in privileged L.A. society, where her playmates included hotel heiress Paris Hilton who she starred in the reality show, The Simple Life with. Trouble followed including arrests and problems with drugs, and Nicole Richie finally found herself in rehab. Coming out of that and all through that time she struggled with body issues and being too thin, even as she was establishing herself as a style icon.
But Nicole is a tough girl, she has turned her life around and now become a domesticated goddess with rocker hubby Joel Madden, with whom she has two children, daughter Harlow and son Sparrow.

To me Nicole is an inspiration. She's gone through some rocky territory on her road to adulthood however, she seems to have learned some life changing lessons from her experiences, getting back up on her feet and continuing on with a desire to make the absolute most of the life she's been given. Recently she was named Entrepreneur of the Year in Glamour Magazine's 'Women of the Year' Awards in London, another highlight in her ever growing list of achievements.
Nicole currently juggles motherhood, designing, running businesses and can claim to be a New York Times best selling author. Her first book "The Truth About Diamonds" was published in 2006. And her new Novel 'Priceless' hit book stores here in Australia this month. It has already received much better reviews than the first book and I have heard only good things about this novel.
Not to mention her gorgeous jewelry line, House of Harlow. Inspired by her 60's boho aesthetic, this range of chunky retro inspired pieces are fantastic. In addition she has recently added fashion designer to her credits in her Winter Kate collection.
Recently marrying her 5 year boyfriend and father of her 2 kids on December 10, 2010; the wedding was nothing short of spectacular. Taking place at her father's house, there was 100s of yards of tulle on a custom Marchesa dress inspired by Grace Kelly's wedding dress, a beautiful tent made to look like a French garden, and even an elephant..
With so many celebrities using their money and fame for self indulgent activities, Nicole seems to be making the most of her life to accomplish her own dreams, give back to her community and care for her young family. She is one of my style icons, as well as a life inspiration for someone who has made a positive change and is not afraid to pursue her dreams.
